“El Mayimbe” of Latino-Review is reporting that both Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale are being sought by Warner Brothers to be involved with the long-in-the-works Justice League movie.
There have been a lot of rumors swirling around for years in regards to this movie. We’ve heard of directors being looked at, actors being considered, of scripts being thrown out and of Warner Bros. execs worriedly looking at the summer movie slate of 2015, which is set to include Star Wars 7 and Avengers 2, leaving them with no horse in the race.
Latino Review has been pretty reliable when it comes to leaked rumors such as these. They were the first ones to say Brandon Routh would be cast as Superman, that Heath Ledger was going to be the Joker, that Iron Man 3 would be based on the Extremis comic book storyline, and that Nolan and David Goyer would be involved with Man of Steel (which WB denied, but look where we are now), amongst other things.
You can pretty safely assume at this point, until there’s an official denial (and even then…), that there is some truth to this. Henry Cavill’s Superman and Christian Bale’s Batman are set to team up together in the near future, for either a JLA or World’s Finest film. Financially, this is the smartest thing for WB to do. Bale/Nolan are billion dollar names. They get Bat-asses in the seats.
Creatively, I have mixed feelings. While I enjoyed Christopher Nolan’s first two Batman films, and all of his non-Batman outings, I found the Dark Knight Rises to be pretty uninspired and frustratingly disappointing. I didn’t care for what he did with the Batman characters, where he ultimately left them, and I’m not sure he really has a passion or interest in this superhero stuff. Even his Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises could hardly be categorized as superhero films as they have more in common with the likes of Michael Mann and James Bond.
But, we’ll see. Apparently Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel is something to behold, that it could very well be 2013’s champion supreme, which would be fantastic. If they can pull off Superman, then I sure would like Nolan and Snyder to drag Bruce Wayne’s lazy ass out of Paris or wherever the hell he was at the end of TDKR and give him at least one more proper outing as Batman. And maybe this time he won’t rely so much on Morgan Freeman and Joseph Gordon Levitt to do all the work for him. All snark and misgivings aside, a part of me deep down would be pretty excited to see this Superman and Batman team up.
